Things to know...

I am a young aspiring writer with a passion for literature. I'm currently studying English and Creative Writing BA at Birmingham University. I studied A levels in Philosophy, Dance and English as well as having completed one in French at the age of 13. Growing up in a foreign country only made my love for books stronger as it was one of the few ways I could learn about my own English language and culture. By living abroad, I was able to develop language skills that would benefit my studies later on in life. In the short six months after beginning pre-school, I was fluent in French and able to communicate freely with other students and learn at the same rate. However, living in France left me with few ways to experience English culture and develop key skills in my first language. Originally, I hated the idea of reading and preferred films and TV. To combat this, my older sibling read to me when I was a child and by refusing to read climactic moments, forced me to do it for myself. From then on, I was rarely seen without a book in hand and almost permanently had my eyes fixed on a page.

My love of books has only grown since then and through reading novels by authors such as Sarah J. Maas and Lydia Ruffles or Derek Landy, I was inspired to begin writing for myself. Reading helped me academically as through it, I learned to love studying English. The language skills I gained from my time abroad only pushed me further into the subject. I am interesting in writing across different media types and reworking narratives across games, tv and film. I have studied scriptwriting, theatre writing, genre fiction and I am specialising in adaptations, fantasy and pop culture in my final year in 2023.

In my spare time I also love to dance and have been taking classes since the age of 7. I have taken classes in a number of styles such as Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballet and Street Dance. Dancing enables me to explore more of my artistic side and contrasts with my English studies as I am able to create narratives and convey a variety of emotions and themes without words. Being a dancer has been paramount in the development of my creativity and I consider myself lucky to have been able to study this subject at A level as it is not available to many.

My portfolio will contain my strongest pieces of writing from the past few years which demonstrate the skill and versatility I have worked hard to achieve. Included will be articles, essays, poetry and fiction that I have been working on recently.
